Bangladesh Test Squad Announced for Sri Lanka Series: Shanto Leads Bangladesh, Litton Das Makes Comeback

On Wednesday, June 4, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named a 16-player squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Najmul Hossain Shanto's future is now clear after the announcement of Bangladesh's Test squad for their first series in the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Shanto to Continue as Bangladesh Test Captain, Miraz Remains Vice-Captain
Shanto’s time as captain had its share of highs and lows. While he did achieve a few important things, there were also some controversies along the way. Earlier, he had told the BCB that he wanted to step down as captain. He said the role was taking a toll on his mind and that his own form had gone down because of it.
Even though Najmul Hossain Shanto didn’t want to continue as captain, it looks like he and the board had a talk and came to an understanding. In the end, Shanto will stay on as the Test captain of the Bangladesh team.
He will continue as the captain for one more year, and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will support as vice-captain. "Top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto has been retained as Bangladesh's Test captain for another year, continuing in the leadership role he assumed in 2024. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also continues as the vice-captain, maintaining the leadership pairing that led the team in the previous season," BCB said in a statement on Wednesday while announcing the Test squad.
Litton Das Returns, Ebadot and Nahid Recalled for Sri Lanka Tests
Talking more about the squad, star wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das is back in the Test team. He had missed the last series because of an injury. Fast bowlers Ebadot Hossain and Nahid Rana have been brought back into the squad for the upcoming matches against Sri Lanka. Ebadot is returning to international cricket after a long break, he last played in July 2023. Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad has also been included in the team.
The first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be hosted by Galle from June 17, and the second Test will be held in Colombo from June 25. The Bangla Tigers will be leaving for Sri Lanka on June 13 to start their preparations.
