Ban vs Pak: Pakistan require 268 runs to win as Bangladesh declare the innings

by mishaalmubarak

Pakistan bowlers grabbed six wickets in the first session of the final day of the Mirpur Test, leaving Bangladesh at 240/9. That was the point where the hosts decided to declare, setting Pakistan a 268-run target to chase in roughly 75 overs.

Shanto, Mushfiqur remained on the crease overnight

Bangladesh started the day with both batters, Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto, on the crease. Shanto had notched up a fifty before the close of play on day four, his second fifty-plus score in this game. Mushfiqur, who came in to bat in the final few overs of the previous day after Shaheen Shah Afridi got a breakthrough with Mominul Haque’s wicket, could only stay for a short while.

Hasan Ali got the better of him as the two batters decided to take risks to accelerate the scoring rate.

Noman, Hasan struck

Noman Ali dismissed three batters, including two wickets in one over. Besides him, both Hasan and Shaheen grabbed one wicket each to help clear out the remaining batters. With Taskin Ahmed’s dismissal, Bangladesh were nine down and declared the innings.

This allowed them to have a go at Pakistan’s openers in a short 15-minute phase before lunch. And it worked decently in the hosts’ favour as they dismissed Imam-ul-Haq, bringing two debutants, Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal, to the crease. Imam feathered a Taskin Ahmed delivery, which was caught easily by the keeper, sending him back for just two runs.

Pakistan went inside still 262 runs behind with just nine wickets in hand. For now, all three results — draw, win, and loss — are on the cards for them.
