Babar Azam crosses 9000 runs across formats in this decade
Babar Azam is now the only batter in the 2020s with more than 9000 runs across formats. The right-handed batter crossed the milestone in Pakistan’s second Test match against Bangladesh.
Babar leads scorers on Test return
Missing out on the first game with a left knee injury, Babar top-scored with a 68 off 84 deliveries, helping Pakistan reach closer to the hosts’ first innings total.
The Pakistan batter anchored the innings during the Sylhet Test, after the team lost their wickets in quick succession. By the end of the innings, where Pakistan finished 46 runs short of the first innings total, Babar and, surprisingly, Sajid Khan were the only batters to cross 30 runs.
With 9060 international runs, which include 67 fifties and 17 hundreds, since the start of 2020, Babar is leading the charts, with England’s Joe Root at second place with 8305 runs.
But despite that, his disappointment would be immense as he failed to reach the triple figures once again. Since 2022, Babar has scored no Test centuries and only four in white-ball formats.
