Asia Cup Rising Stars: India A Women secure a convincing win over Pakistan A Women

India’s senior men’s team was not the only side from the country to triumph over Pakistan on February 15. India A Women handed Pakistan A Women a resounding defeat, moving to second spot in the tournament table.
Pakistan batting collapse
Indian bowlers made it a short batting affair for Pakistan as they consistently chipped away at the lineup. The highest run scorer for Pakistan was Shawaal Zulfiqar, who made 23 runs off 29 balls. Besides her, only two other batters, Gull Rukh and Anosha Nasir, were able to cross double figures.
In total, Pakistan could only set a 93-run target, as Saima Thakor, Radha Yadav, and Prema Rawat each grabbed two wickets to end Pakistan’s innings in just 18.5 overs.
India took 10.1 overs to chase the target
In response, India lost their opener Humaira Kazi on the very first ball of the chase, with Pakistan’s Waheeda Akhtar drawing first blood. However, after that, there were hardly any bumps for the side.
They made easy work of the target as Dinesh Vrinda and Anushka Sharma built quick runs on the back of a flurry of boundaries. By the time Anushka was sent back by Momina Riasat, India were within inches of victory. Tejal Hasabnis helped the team close the gap fairly quickly, scoring 12 runs off 5 balls, including a six and a four.
Both teams have now lost one game each, as India came off a defeat against the UAE Women. However, the Net Run Rate (NRR) is what separates the two sides. India, who beat Pakistan convincingly, have a positive NRR of 1.830, due to which they sit second.
A win against Nepal Women could take India to the next stage. However, for Pakistan, they would need to beat the UAE as well as hope for other results to go their way to avoid elimination.
