Ashes 2025-26: Josh Inglis Replaces Usman Khawaja for 2nd Test, Travis Head to Remain Opener
Australia are likely to bring in Josh Inglis to replace the injured Usman Khawaja for the second Ashes Test against England. Khawaja has been ruled out of the pink-ball match because of back spasms, which means the home team has to make a late change to their playing XI. The day-night Test will be played at The Gabba in Brisbane, and the match will begin on December 4.
Josh Inglis Steps In for Injured Khawaja in 2nd Ashes Test
Josh Inglis is set to play in the 2nd Ashes Test, which will be his first Test match at home. As per reports, he will bat in the middle order, while Travis Head will continue to open the innings for Australia. Captain Steve Smith is likely to confirm Inglis as Usman Khawaja’s replacement during the press conference on Wednesday.
Khawaja has joined Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood on Australia’s injury list in the ongoing Ashes series. He tried to train for about 30 minutes on Tuesday but felt discomfort and could not continue. Beau Webster was also considered for the playing XI, but Inglis is expected to get the chance because he spent a lot of time practising in the slip cordon, which is normally Khawaja’s fielding spot.
Australia squad for 2nd Ashes Test:
