Ankit Rajpoot Retires from Cricket, Shares Emotional Farewell Note
Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Ankit Rajpoot has decided to retire from Indian cricket at the age of 31. Rajpoot, known for his height and ability to swing the ball, has played for several teams in the IPL and now plans to explore new opportunities in the cricket world.
Rajpoot started his first-class cricket in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season for Uttar Pradesh from where he went on to pick 248 wickets in red-ball cricket, even though he could never reach the national level to don the India cap but certainly had an excellent spell with the Indian Premier League team. Rajpoot played for the Chennai Super Kings side in 2013. Later he played for some Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals as well as the Kolkata Knight Riders teams. He was most recently part of the Lucknow Super Giants squad but did not get a game.
One of the IPL bright spots in his career involved five wickets that meant for him, it's an overall 24 from 29 matches. It's been since 2020 that he featured at IPL, and went unsold in mega auction, while earlier this season he played two Ranji Trophy games without taking any wicket.
"Today, with immense gratitude & humility, I announce my retirement from Indian Cricket. My journey from 2009-2024 has been the most wonderful period of my life. I am grateful for the opportunities given to me by the Board of Control for India, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Kanpur Cricket Association, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings 11, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants.
"I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket & the business side of it, where I will also continue to participate in the sport that I love and challenge myself in a new and different environment. I believe that this is the next step in my journey as a Cricketer and I look forward to this new chapter in my life. I wish the best of luck to all the teammates from the various teams I've been a part of," Ankit shared on Instagram.
