Abdullah Fazal hopes to keep contributing to Pakistan’s Test team

by mishaalmubarak

Abdullah Fazal is one of Pakistan's newest Test recruits. Abdullah had a memorable debut despite it coming in a wretched series against Bangladesh, where his side finished 0-2.

The left-handed batter was called in for the first Test game in Mirpur to replace Babar Azam, who had been rested with a left knee issue. Safe to say, the young batter made the most of the opportunity as he struck fifties in both innings.

"I was naturally a little nervous at the start of my debut Test match, but once I settled in, I began to enjoy the occasion. Scoring half-centuries in both innings for Pakistan was a proud moment for me. It has always been my dream to represent Pakistan in Test cricket."

Abdullah prepares at NCA

Pakistan have a rare break in their schedule as they await the two-match Test series against West Indies in July. But the players would not be able to catch their breath as the Pakistan Cricket Board announced red-ball and white-ball training camps for 49 players.

He, along with 21 other players, is a part of Pakistan's ongoing red-ball camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

"The red-ball camp at the National Cricket Academy has been very productive so far. There is a strong focus on fitness and skill development. We begin our day with physical training and resume our cricket-related activities later in the day. Such camps are extremely beneficial and help us prepare well for the challenges ahead."

Will Abdullah be a good replacement for Babar Azam?

Abdullah's career began with him replacing Babar Azam in the opening Test of the Bangladesh series, but the left-handed batter believes Babar's shoes were too big to be filled. However, Abdullah's contribution in the top order could help Pakistan find continuity in their batting lineup.

"Babar Azam is a world-class player and a source of pride for Pakistan cricket. No one can truly replace a player of his stature. However, I received tremendous support and confidence from the team management and my focus was to contribute to the team to the best of my ability whenever I was given the opportunity."
