Aakash Chopra Predicts Ravi Bishnoi's Exclusion Despite Stellar Performance Against South Africa

by Staff Writer

In a move that could spark debate among cricket enthusiasts, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has suggested that leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi might be sidelined for the second T20I between India and South Africa. The match is scheduled to take place in Gqeberha on Sunday, November 10. Despite Bishnoi's impressive performance in the opening match, where he claimed three wickets, the team dynamics might force his exclusion.

India currently leads the four-match T20I series 1-0, having secured a commanding 61-run victory in the first encounter in Durban. The team is now gearing up for the second clash on a pitch that Chopra describes as "tacky," which could favor spin bowlers. However, according to Chopra, the team management may opt to bench Bishnoi if they decide to play two spinners, primarily to retain Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy in the playing XI.

Chopra elaborated on his prediction, stating, "The pitch in Gqeberha is tacky, and I think India will play two spinners. Ravi Bishnoi will be dropped because you can’t touch Axar Patel. Axar bats at No.7, and you don’t drop a player who bats in that position. One of the spinners will be benched, and it will be Ravi Bishnoi, as at this moment, you can’t exclude Varun Chakravarthy."

In the first T20I, both Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi showcased their prowess with the ball by taking three wickets each. Chakravarthy dismissed key South African batsmen Ryan Rickelton, Heinrich Klaasen, and David Miller, while Bishnoi dismantled the lower-middle order, making significant inroads into the Proteas' batting lineup.

Adding to India's formidable performance, Sanju Samson delivered a spectacular innings in Durban, becoming the first Indian to score two consecutive hundreds in T20 internationals. His century propelled India to a competitive total of 202/8 in their allotted 20 overs. The bowlers then restricted South Africa to 141, securing a comprehensive victory.

As the series progresses, team selection will remain a focal point, particularly in conditions that could heavily influence spin strategy. With the likes of Axar Patel offering both batting depth and bowling versatility, the Indian team management faces a challenging decision regarding their spinning options.

The forthcoming match not only promises another thrilling encounter but also highlights the strategic intricacies of team selection in international cricket. Fans and analysts alike will be keenly observing whether Chopra's predictions hold true and how India adjusts its lineup in pursuit of a series victory.
