Pakistan TV pull off record defence against SNGPL in President's Trophy Grade-I

Pakistan TV pull off record defence against SNGPL in President's Trophy Grade-I

Pakistan TV rewrote history by defending the lowest total ever in first-class history. Playing against Sui Northern (SNGPL) in the President’s Trophy Grade-I, Pakistan’s first-class competition, PTV successfully defended 40 runs. Doing so, they broke a record that had stood since 1794, when Oldfield got out all of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) below the 41-run target.

Ammad and Ali took SNGPL to cleaners

SNGPL, which was led by Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood, were primed for an easy win after they had dominated for most of the match. However, the tables were turned by spinner Ali Usman, the tournament’s leading wicket-getter, and fast bowler Ammad Butt, both of whom shared 10 wickets between them as they laid SNGPL to waste.

PTV came from behind to win the game

The match, overall, was a low-scoring affair, as have been the majority of games in the tournament. Batting first, PTV scored 166, while SNGPL responded with a 72-run lead. PTV could not make a strong comeback in the third innings as they kept losing consistent wickets, before a batting collapse hit them. They lost FIVE of their players for just 5 runs to end up at 111.

In the fourth innings, all but one SNGPL batter, Saifullah Bangash, returned without entering double figures. Four players, including Shan Masood, went for ducks.

The win puts PTV in the second place on the points table, ahead of SNGPL. Both teams have three more games left to play in this round.
