India Tour of Bangladesh 2026: BCB Assures Top-Level Security Ahead of White-Ball Series

India Tour of Bangladesh 2026: BCB Assures Top-Level Security Ahead of White-Ball SeriesThe Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reiterated its commitment to providing top-level security for the proposed white-ball series against India in September 2026, provided the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agrees to go ahead with the tour. The six-match series was originally scheduled for August 2025 but was postponed following strained diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries.

India-Bangladesh Series Put on Hold Amid Diplomatic Tensions

The relationship between India and Bangladesh deteriorated after controversial remarks made by some Bangladeshi officials regarding India's territory last year. The resulting tensions prompted the postponement of India's scheduled tour. However, in March, reports suggested that the series had been rescheduled for September 2026, with a tentative itinerary also surfacing. The BCB further strengthened hopes of the tour by inviting bids for the series' media rights last week, although the BCCI has yet to make an official announcement.

Speaking about the proposed tour, BCB Security Committee chairman Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed assured that every possible measure would be taken to ensure the safety of the Indian team. "Security is always a concern for every touring side, especially for the major cricketing nations. We have not yet formally started communication with them (BCCI). We are hopeful there will be no complaints if the tour takes place as planned," Sayeed told reporters in Dhaka on July 7.

Sayeed, who is the son of Bangladesh's Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, expressed confidence that the board could deliver the highest security standards if the series goes ahead. "We always try to organise our events in a controlled environment and ensure the highest standards of security. We will continue to do that. If required, we will enhance the security depending on the situation. We are still working out the details of the tour and trying to establish communication through formal channels because the tour is coming up very soon," he added.

Despite signs of improving relations between the two cricket boards, the BCCI could face a major scheduling challenge. India are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in August before hosting Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series from September 13 to 19. The only available window for the Bangladesh tour appears to be the first half of September, making the schedule extremely tight unless the BCCI rotates players or alters its existing commitments.

For now, the proposed India-Bangladesh series remains subject to BCCI approval. If confirmed, it will feature three ODIs and three T20Is across Mirpur and Chattogram, providing both teams valuable preparation ahead of a busy international calendar later in the year.
