Bangladesh Ends its Win Drought in the West Indies

Bangladesh made history on West Indies soil after winning by 101 runs against the host West Indies. This win ends the 15-year drought of any win in the Caribbean country. Bangladesh won its first test in West Indies in July 2009 at Kingstown and in that series, they did a clean sweep of 2-0. This is their third victory in the Caribbean, the performance suggests the growing stature of Bangladesh in the cricketing world.

There Caribbean journey 
While winning their first and second test consecutively in Kingstown and Sabina Park, in 2009. Bangladesh lost seven tests in a row in the West Indies before breaking their bad record in the last test match.
The continuous streak of loss was broken at Sabina Park with a victory of 101 runs which ended the long drought and showed its continued growing abilities in overseas conditions.

The Match 
This 101-run victory helped Bangladesh level the two-match test series. In the match, Batter Jaker Ali played an innings of 91 runs off 106 balls including eight fours and five sixes. The innings helped Bangladesh to set the target of 287 runs. The important aspect of his innings was that he scored 62 runs in the morning out of the 75 runs the team scored, his last runs significantly helped the team set a respectable target.

Along with him, pacer Taijul Islam bowled a match-winning spell taking 5 wickets for 50 runs, the other bowler Nahid Rana also bowled impressively in the first innings with a maiden 5 wicket haul whereas the seamer Taskin Ahmed comes as a leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets in the series.

 The West Indies team tried to chase the target of 287 with scores of 55 and 43 runs from Kavem Hodge and Kraigg Braithwaite respectively. However, without the support of other players team fell short of the target and was all out at 185 runs in just 50 overs.

Despite losing the first test in Antigua, the team made a strong comeback in Sabina Park marking their third overseas victory this year. The West Indian team was trying to break the record, as the last successful chase was of 212 runs which was done by Sri Lanka against the hosts in 2003, but they couldn't.

With the match-winning performance from Jaker Ali and Taijul Islam in the second innings, Bangladesh end the 15-year drought.
