Chris Bradley, the Head of IPL's Business Consulting practice and acknowledged Information Management thought leader will be running a half day workshop entitled Modelling is not JUST for DBMSs anymore – Evolve or die in the DAMA Tutorials track at the DM&IQ + DW&BI Conference in London.
Data Modelling has been around for 30 years. Its roots were firmly in the DBMS world – how many of you can remember implementing a DBMS on a tape based system? Yes really (it was IMS HISAM). But in the intervening 3 decades the World has moved on.
Today's Business systems landscape isn't just about developing “new” DBMS based systems. The IT portfolio contains a variety of additional components such as:
- ERP packages
- BI & DW systems
- Mashups & portals
- SOA & XML message based systems.
This half day tutorial will first re-emphasise the “traditional” place modelling has in the DBMS design lifecycle. It will then go on to show how data modelling can be used and why it's vital in other areas of the application portfolio.
