We are pleased to announce that an Atkins-led team including IPL, has been awarded the Highways Agency's (HA) prestigious Regional Control Centres (RCC) Technology Consultancy Support Contract. The contract, worth £18.7m over five years, starts in January 2009 following the end of the current contract. It may extend up to seven years in total, subject to performance and the HA's needs.
Working under the title "Tandem", Atkins leads the delivery team which also includes Hyder Consulting Ltd and Cambridge Consultants Ltd. Each of the four contributor companies to Tandem has a significant track record of working in fruitful partnership with the HA and other similar organisations. Tandem has provided professional programme and technical support to the HA's RCC Technology team continuously since April 2004. This covered the initial technology implementation for all seven RCCs and their subsequent enhancements.
Tandem's role helps support the HA's Traffic Officer Service, from providing a helpdesk staffed by experienced systems managers through to designing integrated services for the control rooms, for example, the new transmission system for emergency roadside telephones. Updating operational systems such as the Command & Control, communications management, Airwave (TETRA) radio and operational telephony systems is a key part of this role.
