The Highways Agency is the network operator for motorways and all purpose trunk roads in England. These roads carry one third of all traffic and two thirds of goods traffic. New technology is important in helping the Agency to manage traffic on this important network to provide journey reliability, safety and information to drivers about traffic conditions.
As the development and interconnection of intelligent transport systems has accelerated, the importance of understanding the quality of the exchanged data has increased. This is particularly relevant for the many open interfaces now being developed across the industry for the exchange of traffic and travel related information between one organisation and another and across jurisdictional boundaries.
This technical standard sets out the framework for the publication and assessment of data quality and specifies a set of standard terminology for defining data quality meta data for use between data suppliers and data consumers in the ITS domain.
